The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index advanced 0.2%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index shed 0.4%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 0.1% to $57.54 a barrel, and global benchmark Brent crude contract increased 0.4% to $61.27 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures climbed 1.9% to $2.99 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Oklo (OKLO) and Europe-based nuclear reactor developer Newcleo said Friday that they have agreed to develop advanced fuel fabrication and manufacturing infrastructure in the US. Oklo shares rose 1%.
Exxon Mobil (XOM) sold 4 million barrels of Guyanese crude oil to two Indian refiners, Reuters reported. Exxon shares added 1.5%.
California Resources (CRC) shares increased 0.3% after the firm said late Thursday it broke ground for Carbon TerraVault I, a carbon capture and storage project in California.
BP's (BP) Whiting refinery in Indiana has multiple units that are offline, Reuters reported Friday, citing data from Wood Mackenzie. BP shares were up 1.1%.
