Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Mixed After Midday

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV fell. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) added 0.2%.

US equity indexes were mixed in midday trading on Wednesday as the S&P 500 eased from the record topping 7,000 ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy decisions and quarterly tech results.

Energy

IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) gained 0.6% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) rose 0.5%.

Technology

The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) climbed 0.6%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) advanced.

The State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) rose 2.4%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) added 2.1%.

Financial

The State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 0.4%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), climbed 0.3%.

Commodities

Crude oil added 0.6%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 0.4%. Natural gas dropped 2.8%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) slipped 2.2%.

Gold on Comex jumped 4.2%, and the State Street SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 2.1%. Silver surge 8%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) advanced 1.1%.

Consumer

The State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell 0.8%. The Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) dropped.

The State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell0.4%. VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) dropped 1.1%, and the State Street SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) lost 1.2%.

Health Care

The State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) shed1%, while iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) declined. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) fell 1.3%.

Industrial

The State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) fell 0.3%. Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) dropped.

Cryptocurrency

In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) was up 0.5%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF (BITO) added 1.1%, ProShares Ether ETF (EETH) fell fractionally, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) rose 0.3%.
