The negative value means the U.S. is a net exporter of energy.
U.S. primary energy exports fell 5% to 2.4 quadrillion Btu, the EIA said. Approximately 34% of the exports were petroleum products, 29% were natural gas, 28% were crude oil and 7% were coal. Biomass, coal coal and electricity made up a combined 1%.
U.S. primary energy imports also declined 6% to 1.6 quadrillion Btu, 64% of which is crude oil. Natural gas made up 19%, petroleum products 16%, and electricity, coal, biomass and coal coke a combined 1%.
