U.S. power plant operators generated 6.9 million megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity from natural gas on July 9, likely the most in history and certainly since at least Jan. 1, 2019, the EIA said.

According to the National Weather Service, above-average temperatures engulfed most of the U.S. on July 9, with the West Coast and East Coast dealing with particularly strong heat waves, the EIA said.

Meanwhile, wind generated 0.3 million MWh in the lower 48 U.S. states on July 9, compared with a daily average of 1.3 million MWh in June, the agency noted.
